Richard’s career began with DuPont, where he led new developments for the polymers business in Europe and Scandinavia. He then worked at a university, where he led a commercial consultancy to exploit technologies for consumer benefit. He later studied Design at the Royal College of Art and subsequently set up an award-winning innovation consultancy in London, with clients including Levi’s, DuPont, and Herman Miller.

His next project, d3o, was his own invention: a soft flexible material containing intelligent molecules that lock together to absorb impact. Adopted by leading sports brands such as Puma, The North Face, Scott, Head, and Burton—where Richard led product developments—d3o is now sold in more than 50 countries.

Awarded o2 Entrepreneur of the Year in 2007 for his endeavors, Richard regularly appears in print and on TV as a leading entrepreneur and innovator. He also lectures around the globe on the subject of innovation and product design.

Richard has an MA (RCA) and a B.Eng (Hons) in 1st Class Mechanical Engineering, as well as a Diploma in Engineering, from Imperial College London.
